Burbank Hopeful’s Ad Denies He’ll Quit Race

Burbank City Council candidate Al Dossin on Wednesday used a newspaper advertisement to quell rumors that he plans to pull out of the race for a council seat.

Dossin’s announcement in a local newspaper ended several days of speculation that started when a published report quoted “an informed source” as saying that Dossin had said he could not take time away from his insurance business to serve on the council.

In Wednesday’s advertisement, Dossin said he would continue to campaign “and no amount of intimidation from any person or persons will dissuade me.” In an interview, Dossin declined to explain whether anyone had tried to force him out of the race.

Dossin was one of three candidates endorsed by council opposition leader Mary Lou Howard. All three candidates made a surprisingly strong showing in the primary, finishing ahead of incumbent Mayor E. Daniel Remy and Councilman Larry Stamper.

Dossin said the report that he would withdraw from the council race may have hurt his chances in the general election, but that he intends “to campaign more vigorously than in the primary.”
