Talks ended on the sale of a Times Mirror unit.

Boise Cascade Corp. and Times Mirror Co. ended talks concerning Boise Cascade's possible purchase of Times Mirror's ailing newsprint and forest-products division because "certain tax problems could not be worked out," a Times Mirror spokeswoman said. The talks had been announced Feb. 8. The division, which has lost money every year since 1980, is the second-largest source of revenue for Los Angeles-based Times Mirror, parent of the Los Angeles Times and other newspapers.
