Four Promoted by Community Psychiatric

Citing its rapid growth in recent months as well as future expansion plans, Community Psychiatric Centers of Santa Ana reported Thursday that it has reorganized its hospital division and promoted four key executives.

Loren B. Shook was named executive vice president for the company’s domestic hospital operations, which were divided into three geographic regions. Shook has been with the company for 12 years, most recently as senior vice president.

Reporting to Shook are Robert Derenthal, who was named senior vice president for the newly created western division; Ralph Watts, who was appointed senior vice president of the southern division based in Atlanta, Ga.; and Donald Kalicak, who was promoted to vice president of operations for the central division.

The appointments were announced by James W. Conte, president and chief executive of Community Psychiatric Centers, a 20-year-old health care company with revenues of $182.6 million in its most recent fiscal year.

The company said it plans to expand its domestic hospital operations from the current 22 facilities to 31 next year. In addition to the 22 psychiatric hospitals in the United States and four in England, the company owns 49 kidney dialysis units and a home health care division operating under the name of Personal Care Health Services.

Last month the company announced tentative plans to acquire Safeguard Health Enterprises, a Whittier-based health maintenance organization specializing in dental services.
