Countywide : 3 Annexations Given Approval by Commission

Share

The Local Agency Formation Commission has approved annexations of more than 108 acres to the cities of Tustin, Orange and Irvine.

Tustin annexed 11.5 acres of residential property bordered by Yorba and 17th streets. Orange annexed two sections of adjoining land along Orangewood Avenue and State College Boulevard near Anaheim. The triangle-shaped, 16-acre annexation area in Orange contains 50 separate parcels of land, including 49 single-family dwellings and a condominium complex.

Irvine’s 81-acre acquisition was the only undeveloped land annexed. The area, which is owned by the Irvine Co., is bordered by Old Trabuco Road on the north, Jeffrey Road on the east and the Santa Ana Freeway on the south.

The annexed areas were joined to neighboring cities by the commission Wednesday in an effort to eliminate “county islands,” previously unincorporated county land parcels that are surrounded by incorporated areas.

Ken Scattergood, commission assistant executive officer, said the three cities utilized a 1984 state law allowing cities to initiate annexations of county islands. Present land-use or zoning requirements on the properties will not be affected by the annexations.
