Newport Beach : Apartment-Retail Project Up for Council Approval

Share

A mammoth housing and retail project calling for 888 apartments, condominiums and single-family homes at Jamboree Road and Bison Avenue will be considered by the City Council Monday.

The venture by the Irvine Co. and Bren Co. calls for construction on a 125-acre parcel on the northeast corner of Jamboree Road and Bison Avenue.

As part of the project, a 50,000-square-foot retail area would be built on a five-acre parcel in the southern end of the site. There are no specific building plans yet for the retail portion, said Dave Dmohowski, government relations manager for the Irvine Co.

Plans for housing call for 596 apartments on the eastern side, 172 single-family, detached houses on the western end and 120 condominiums adjacent to Camelback Street, Dmohowski said.

The Bren Co., the home-development firm owned by Donald Bren, chairman of the Irvine Co., would build the single-family homes. The plans comply with the zoning of the area.

If the project is approved, a construction schedule would be determined by the housing market, Dmohowski said.
