Gov. Edwin Edwards, his brother and five other men pleaded innocent today to federal racketeering charges that accused them of illegally making $10 million in a hospital construction scheme. Each was placed under $100,000 bond to await trial.

Edwards left court and joked with reporters: “I just found out how much I’m worth.” Asked what he thought about the proceeding, he called it a waste of time.
