Releaguing Plan Is Approved; South County Gets New League

Share

As expected, Orange County principals voted to approve a releaguing proposal that would go into effect in the 1986-87 season.

La Habra High School principal Tom Triggs would not reveal the final vote tally, but he said the proposal was approved by “about 90%” of the county’s 56 public high school principals.

Under the new proposal, Tustin and Orange high schools will leave the Century League and a new league will be formed comprised of Costa Mesa, Laguna Beach, Laguna Hills, Orange, Trabuco Hills and Woodbridge.

“I felt the committee did a great job, and it was reflected by the way the proposal was accepted by the county’s principals,” Triggs said. “We also decided to let the new league come up with its own name.”

Under the new proposal, there will be eight, six-team leagues in the county and one, eight-team league--the Empire League.

The proposal is expected to be finalized in a Southern Section executive council meeting in September. Here are the league setups for 1986-87:
