Golden West Hands Santa Ana First Loss

Cindy Methot’s two-run single in the bottom of the third inning helped the Golden West College softball team hand Santa Ana its first loss of the season, 3-1, in the South Coast Conference opener on the Rustlers’ field at Huntington Beach.

Lisa Brady went the distance on a three-hitter to earn the victory, while Lani Silva pitched a four-hitter in a losing effort. The Dons (0-1 in conference, 13-1 overall) scored their only run on an error in the the top of the first inning. Golden West improves to 7-6 overall.

In other South Coast Conference action:

Fullerton 2, Cerritos 0--Lisa Fresquez pitched a complete-game, five-hitter and struck out eight to help the Hornets defeat the Falcons at Cerritos. Rose Muckenthaler went 2 for 3 for Fullerton and scored in the third inning on a double steal.

The Hornets (1-0 and 12-2) scored their other run in the first inning on Liz Carter’s RBI single. Cerritos drops to 0-1 and 11-8.
