Block won’t reimpose controls on orange sales.
Agriculture Secretary John R. Block has decided for the time being against reimposing federal controls on the weekly sale of fresh navel oranges grown in California and Arizona, an aide said. In effect, the order’s suspension meant that growers could market all of the navel oranges that they wanted. In California, the Navel Orange Administrative Committee, which normally sets the shipment ceilings, has urged Block to backtrack, saying his action had pushed the market into chaos.
