Harvey Englander to Chair Friends of Hebrew U. Chapter

Harvey Englander was named chairman of the new Orange County chapter of the American Friends of the Hebrew University. Englander, who is president of the Englander Group, is a member of Temple Beth Shalom in Santa Ana and is active in the Jewish Federation of Orange County. He has served on the board of the American Jewish Committee and Anti-Defamation League. The Orange County chapter has become part of the 32-nation network of Hebrew University Friends.

Carla Espinoza was named assistant vice chancellor of affirmative-action and equal-opportunity programs at UC Irvine. Espinoza, of West Covina, has a master’s degree in public administration from Cal State Los Angeles and is attending Western State University School of Law, Fullerton. Since 1980, she has been UCI’s affirmative-action officer.

Orange County Professional Chapter of Women in Communications Inc. presented Carolyn Churm, Mary Douglas and Patricia Herzog with the 1985 Advocate Award. The women were honored for outstanding contributions to the progress of women, in Orange County and all California, during 1984. Advocacy was judged in the areas of government, public awareness and interest, improving the status of working women and helping women develop a sense of self-worth.
