COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS SLATED FOR MAY 6 AIRING

Alabama and Willie Nelson are the leading nominees in the 20th annual Academy of Country Music Awards, which will broadcast by NBC-TV from Knott’s Berry Farm on May 6.

Alabama was nominated for entertainer, vocal group and single record and song of the year for “When We Make Love” and album of the year for “Roll On.” Nelson was nominated for entertainer of the year, and he also was nominated along with Julio Iglesias for top vocal duet, single record and song of the year for “To All the Girls I’ve Loved Before.”

Other candidates for entertainer of the year are the Oak Ridge Boys, Ricky Skaggs and Hank Williams Jr. In other selected categories:

Female vocalist: Janie Fricke, Emmylou Harris, Reba McEntire, Anne Murray, Dolly Parton.

Male vocalist: Lee Greenwood, Gary Morris, Kenny Rogers, Skaggs, George Strait.

Vocal group: Alabama, Exile, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, the Oak Ridge Boys, the Statlers.

Album: Skaggs’ “Don’t Cheat in Our Hometown,” Earl Thomas Conley’s “Don’t Make It Easy for Me,” Williams’ “Man of Steel,” Strait’s “Right or Wrong,” Alabama’s “Roll On.”
