Burglaries Rise:The Police Department reports a “marked increase” in residential burglaries, with the criminals often gaining entry by breaking windows near the window lock, reaching in and sliding the window open, according to Suzie Wajda, a department spokeswoman. Police and the Neighborhood Watch Organization are recommending installation of secondary locking devices on all windows. A key-type lock that attaches to the window track is recommended. Police also urge residents to schedule block meetings to discuss the problem and recommendations. For information, call 536-5933.
