It was a milestone in terms of housing starts: the 60-millionth in the United States since the end of World War II.

Footings were poured for it at 10:36 a.m. (C.S.T.) on March 8 in the Kansas City, Mo., suburb of Shawnee.

The split-level, three-bedroom home with 1,819 square feet of living space, built by Darol Rodrock Inc. at 7236 Park St., will sell for about $85,000.

Marking the occasion, John J. Koelemij, president of the National Assn. of Home Builders, said:

“Construction of 60 million homes and apartments and the rehabilitation of millions more has made the U. S. the best housing nation on earth. Today, America’s housing stock is valued at nearly $2.7 trillion, accounting for 27% of the nation’s total wealth.”
