Man With Knife Slain by Officer
A man with a knife threatening a Los Angeles policeman was shot to death in the Highland Park area, police said today. The 64-year-old man, whose name was not made available, had been menacing teen-agers with a butcher knife on Ash Street near Avenue 56 Sunday night when police were called, said Lt. Charles Higbie.
When the individual was confronted by officer Charles B. Hickman, he “rapidly advanced” toward the officer and brandished the knife, said Higbie. Hickman, a 17-year veteran, then shot the man with a 12-gauge shotgun, he said.
