Following a shooting last week that left two officers and a bystander accidentally wounded by police bullets, Los Angeles Police Chief Daryl F. Gates said all officers will be requested to go back to the basics “of police tactics.” While not assigning specific blame on the officers involved in the shooting during a search for a narcotics suspect in a Skid Row area apartment house on Friday, Gates said, “Everyone (in the department) is going to have their sights raised on tactics and responsibilities.” Gates said the department plans to reimplement a basic training program requiring all police officers to re-emphasize “basic tactics.”
