Nineteen Whittier residents have been honored for their service to the Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital Auxiliary. The top honorees were Gerry Pitts with 16,000 service hours, Mary Goodnight with 9,000 hours and Norma Kernohan and Betty Roschan with 8,000 hours each.

Honored for 3,000 hours or more were Miriam Barmore, Betty Warner, Min Williams, Bonnie Hughes, Alice Kelleher, Dottie Maynard, Betty Evans, Thelma Gibson, Virginia Myers, Helen Stair, Carrie Fuselier, Jerry Balazs, Zola Fliss, Bobbie Howard and Lee Ann Kiss.

Deloyce Arrington of Compton has been appointed by Gov. George Deukmejian to a four-year term on the Board of Vocational Nurse and Psychiatric Technician Examiners. Arrington is a licensed vocational nurse at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Bellflower. The board is responsible for state certification of licensed vocational nurses.

John O’Sullivan of Long Beach has been appointed assistant executive director, financial management, of the county Community Development Commission.

O’Sullivan is the former finance director of the City of Hayward. The CDC is the county’s housing and community development arm. It operates the county’s public housing developments, including the Carmelitos development in Long Beach.

Donna Cole has been named assistant athletic director for fund development at Cal State Long Beach. She will be responsible for coordinating the fund-raising efforts of the 49er Athletic Foundation.

Downey Community Hospital has honored 113 employees for a total of 945 years of service. Among those honored were Anna Prince of Downey with 30 years of employment, Patsy Hackney of Norwalk with 25 years and Pat Treen of South Gate with 20 years.
