Two Tulane University basketball players, who reportedly have been granted immunity from prosecution, were questioned Thursday by a grand jury investigating the alleged point-shaving scandal involving team star John Williams, an NBA prospect from Sorrento, La.

Also, a fifth student was arrested in the scandal. Mark Olensky, 21, a senior from Fair Lawn, N.J., surrendered to Orleans Parish District Atty. Harry Connick and was booked on two counts of bribery of sports participants.

The three players and Tulane student Gary Kranz--accused of supplying the three with money and narcotics--were booked on two counts each of public bribery.

Kranz also is charged with possession and intent to distribute marijuana and cocaine. Olensky’s charges include conspiracy to bribe and conspiracy to distribute cocaine.

Two players--Clyde Eads, 22, a starting senior from Tampa, Fla., and Jon Johnson, 22, a starting senior from Columbus, Ga.--testified against senior center Williams, 23, the team’s leading scorer, and against players Bobby Thompson and David Dominique.

Prosecutors allege that the three fixed the results of Metro Conference games against Southern Mississippi Feb. 2 and against Memphis State Feb. 20. Tulane defeated Southern Mississippi, 64-63, and lost to Memphis State, 60-49.

The North American Soccer League said it will suspend operations for the 1985 season.

Only two franchises remain in the league--the Minnesota Strikers and the Toronto Blizzard. “We’re not saying that it (the league) won’t be permanently terminated, but we think there can be a professional soccer league existing in 1986,” said Jim Henderson, the NASL’s director of public relations.

All of West Virginia’s 432 student athletes will be required to submit to a drug-screening test effective Aug. 1, a school spokesman said.

Football and basketball players have been required to take the test since October, said Greg Ott, West Virginia’s head trainer. The program began on a trial basis last fall, he said.
