El Toro Flights Set:Residents near the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station hoping to sleep in today through Tuesday may find their slumber interrupted when 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing jets take off from the station on their way to offshore carrier landing practice. The Marine exercise, involving four A6 Intruders, is scheduled for today and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Monday and Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., said Gunnery Sgt. Jerry Hendrix. Hendrix said noise levels will increase to “not quite as loud as a 747 but pretty close.” Residents can expect to hear the aircraft only on takeoff, he said. The A--6 Intruder is an all-weather, night attack aircraft containing one pilot and one navigator, Hendrix said. The jets are used in training exercises for carrier landings and takeoffs.
