Three elementary school students were detained by school police Saturday morning after someone claimed to have seen the juveniles leaving two Mira Mesa schools that were vandalized earlier that day, a San Diego police official said.

The students, two 10-year-olds and a 12-year-old, were detained by the San Diego Unified School District police on suspicion of vandalizing 19 rooms at Walker Elementary School and Wangenheim Junior High School, said Bill Robinson, public information officer for San Diego Police.

Robinson said the rooms, seven at Walker Elementary and 12 at Wangenheim, were damaged extensively, with furniture broken, walls painted and aquariums overturned.

Nothing was taken, he said.

“The rooms will require extensive work by custodians,” Robinson said.

The juveniles, believed to be students at Walker Elementary School, were released into their parents’ custody after San Diego police officers talked to them, Robinson said.
