Negotiators for 6,000 Pan American World Airways flight attendants reached a tentative contract settlement with the airline today, a federal mediator said.

Walter C. Wallace of the National Mediation Board announced the settlement shortly after noon after 27 straight hours of negotiations. He said no details of the agreement would be disclosed pending ratification by the membership of the Independent Union of Flight Attendants, who had been poised to strike today.
