A man wanted for drug trafficking was wounded in the head when a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy accidentally discharged his gun into the ground during an arrest in Santa Ana, authorities said. A sheriff’s spokesman said Thomas Lee Johnson, 38, was hit by a bullet fragment after he had been ordered to lie on the ground by Deputy Robert Alcaraz, 34. Alcaraz accidentally “struck his own hand” while holding a 9-millimeter pistol, causing the gun to fire, the spokesman said. Johnson was listed in good condition at County-USC Medical Center.
