Manhattan Beach
A proposal to use a surplus 1957 fire truck both as a backdrop for the official city band, the Hyperion Outfall Serenaders, and as part of an elementary school educational program was adopted Tuesday by the City Council.
The truck will become an educational tool in a junior fire marshal program to be implemented in city schools by the Manhattan Beach Firefighters’ Assn. The group’s president, Lance Wilhite, agreed to renovate and maintain the truck and the Serenaders will pay for insurance.
