A 29-year-old Van Nuys woman who pleaded guilty to bilking Medi-Cal out of $3,539 has been fined $5,539, placed on three years’ probation and ordered to perform 120 hours of community service.
Cheryl Meliton Ros owned a condominium in Van Nuys valued at $108,000 and an expensive foreign sports car in the 14 months she was collecting health benefits designed for the poor, according to Kenneth W. Kizer, director of the state Department of Health Services.
Ros, who is married and has two children, pleaded guilty in Los Angeles Municipal Court to grand theft and making false statements on aid applications.
She has repaid the $3,539 and an additional $2,000 as partial restitution for costs incurred by the department while investigating the case, Kizer said.
