The State : 3,000 Wells Polluted

Share

A total of 57 different pesticides have been found in 3,000 wells throughout California, a state legislative report said. Assemblyman Lloyd Connelly (D-Sacramento), who released the report, called it “shocking” and said the pesticides were “a major threat to the ground water supply.” According to the study conducted by the Assembly Office of Research, most of the 3,000 wells contained pesticides at levels too low to be dangerous. Of 2,449 wells containing the banned cancer-causing pesticide DBCP, only 100 have been ordered closed, mostly in the San Joaquin Valley.
