Columbia Pictures Industries said that Home Box Office will receive certain exclusive pay-TV rights to Columbia movies produced before Jan. 1, 1987, and films acquired and released before Jan. 1, 1988, but non-exclusive rights to films produced through the end of 1989. Although precise terms were not disclosed, HBO agreed to make an investment in the production cost of each film produced by Columbia through the end of 1986. For exclusive licenses, HBO agreed to pay a minimum license fee equal to a substantial percentage of the production costs of each year’s films, and box-office performance may increase those fees.
