GOULD ART TO BE SOLD NEXT WEEK

The spectacular art collection of the late Florence J. Gould, a California-born socialite affiliated with French literary and art circles, will be sold Wednesday and Thursday at a Sotheby’s New York auction.
The Wednesday sale of 56 Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings from the Gould estate is expected to attract intense bidding as such works as Van Gogh’s “Landscape With Rising Sun” go on the auction block. Paintings by Toulouse-Lautrec, Bonnard, Monet, Degas and Cezanne also will be sold.
Thursday’s auction will offer 180 Old Master and 19th- and 20th-Century paintings and drawings. Proceeds from both sales will benefit the Florence J. Gould Foundation, a New York-based organization set up to foster Franco-American amity, a cause championed by Gould throughout her lifetime.
