Local News in Brief : Burglar Fires Shots at Police in North Hollywood, Escapes
Athree-hour search of a North Hollywood neighborhood failed to turn up a burglar who had exchanged gunfire with police while escaping, authorities reported Saturday.
There was no evidence of any injuries as a result of the shooting.
The incident began late Friday night when a couple returned to their home in the 4700 block of Cahuenga Boulevard and noticed a flashlight beam moving inside the house, said Sgt. Dennis Zine. Officer Robert Brodowy, 40, was summoned as he drove past on patrol.
Brodowy called for a backup unit, and when it arrived, went into the backyard with another officer, Zine said. At the rear of the house, the officer saw a man walking in the backyard and ordered him to stop.
The suspect turned toward Brodowy with a gun in his hand, and Brodowy fired once from his shotgun, Zine said. The suspect fired two shots and then escaped by scaling a wall.
Despite a search of a two-square-block area, the suspect was not caught. The home had been partially ransacked, Zine said.
