San Diego Firm Receives Tile Institute Award

The Ceramic Tile Institute’s award for best use of tile on a vertical surface has been presentedto Carli Architecture of Los Angeles and San Diego, for the Southern California Gas Co.’s Northern Division headquarters.

The building, a 41,000-square-foot, one-story structure in Tujunga, uses three colors of exterior tile; about 90% of the exterior is covered with an off-white brick tile, accented by two up-and-down bands in variant earth shades, angled to create a stair-step effect.

The award was presented during the institute’s recognition dinner at the Bonaventure hotel earlier this year. Carli is a full-service architecture and space-planning firm specializing in high-tech, research-and-development and financial office buildings.
