The pilot of an American Airlines Boeing 727 bound for Dallas made a quick return to Lindbergh Field on Monday after an oil bypass light began flashing on his control panel, a company spokesman said.

The pilot of Flight 354 shut down one of the plane’s engines about 50 miles out of San Diego and returned with no problem. Mechanics examined the plane for 30 minutes and determined that nothing was wrong with the engine. They replaced the oil warning light, and the flight departed about 4:05 p.m.
