Two men killed in a light plane that crashed Sunday night above La Crescenta were a Glendale flier who had his license less than a week and his brother, authorities said Tuesday.

The Los Angeles County coroner’s office identified them as Robert Potter, 31, the pilot, and Scott Potter, 25, also of Glendale. A National Transportation Safety Board investigator said Robert Potter’s license was issued April 15.

The two died when their rented Cessna 152 crashed at the base of Tujunga Mountain near Gold Creek Road in dense fog. Searchers were not able to reach the wreckage until Monday morning.

Meanwhile, the coroner’s office was withholding the names of two couples and a child who were killed in the crash of a Piper Cherokee near Pyramid Lake in the Castaic area. Dental records were being used to make positive identification.

The National Transportation Safety Board said the plane left Fresno early Sunday afternoon, apparently headed for La Verne, where it was based. After the crash was sighted on a ridge by an Interstate 5 motorist early Monday, sheriff’s rescue units were flown to the site by helicopter.

They said the bodies were scattered with the wreckage.
