A 9-year-old San Pedro boy was struck and killed by a car while riding on his skateboard, police reported. He was identified by the coroner’s office as Joshua Brian Merritt, who was dragged about 300 feet near 37th Street and Carolina Place. Police said the driver of the car was cresting a hill into the sun and did not realize he had struck the boy. The driver went 300 feet to his home and parked before he realized the boy was underneath the car.
