UCI Trio Advances at Ojai Tournament

One singles player and one doubles team from the UC Irvine women’s tennis team survived the first two rounds of the Ojai Tournament Thursday.

In the intercollegiate division, UCI’s Stephanie Rhorer defeated Eileene Santa Maria of Cal State San Bernardino, 6-0, 6-0, and went on to upset Arizona’s highly regarded Chris Seiffert, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4, in the second round.

After a first-round bye, the Anteater doubles team of Lola Trenwith and Colleen Patton defeated Chris Ryan and Kate Dresher of Cal Poly Pomona, 6-1, 6-3.

Irvine’s other singles entry, Lola Trenwith, beat Diane Saba of Cal State Los Angeles, 6-3, 6-0 in the opening round, before losing to UCLA’s Lynn Lewis, 6-2, 6-1.

In invitational singles play, Dina Trenwith of UCI defeated Pam Williams 6-1, 6-0, and lost in round two to Westminster’s Susanna Lee, 6-3, 6-4. Dana Bleicher of San Diego State eliminated the Anteaters’ Haruko Shigekawa, 6-1, 6-3, in the first round of the open division.
