The City Council has unanimously approved a resolution asking President Ronald Reagan to cancel Sunday’s planned visit to a German military cemetery where 49 S.S. soldiers are buried. In denouncing the visit to Bitburg cemetery, the resolution, introduced by Councilwoman Charlotte Spadaro, states: “This council firmly believes that elementary justice and decency demand that the world never forget the cruel torture and murder of millions of innocent people at the hands of the Nazis, and that those who ignore the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them.”
