Top-seeded Mats Wilander and another Swede, Henrik Sundstrom, breezed into the semifinals of the $315,000 West German Open tennis tournament with identical 6-3, 6-0 victories Friday at Hamburg, West Germany.

Wilander defeated Guillermo Vilas of Argentina, while Sundstrom upset second-seeded Andres Gomez of Ecuador.

Wilander, ranked fourth in the world, needed only 70 minutes to defeat Vilas.

Miloslav Mecir of Czechoslovakia and Jose-Luis Clerc of Argentina prevented a Swedish sweep, however. Mecir upset fourth-seeded Joakim Nystrom, 6-2, 6-2, and Clerc beat Jan Gunnarsson 6-4, 6-2.

The winner of Sunday’s final will earn $43,500.

At Houston, Elise Burgin defeated hometown favorite Zina Garrison, 7-6, 3-6, 6-4, to advance to the semifinals of a $150,000 tennis tournament.

In the only other afternoon match, Helena Sukova of Czechoslovakia defeated Mary Lou Piatek, 6-4, 6-1. The victory put Sukova in today’s semifinals against the winner of Friday night’s Martina Navratilova-Regina Marsikova match.

Burgin will face the winner of Friday’s match between Manuela Maleeva of Bulgaria and Sabrina Goles of Yugoslavia.

Garrison, who defeated Chris Evert Lloyd recently in the final at Amelia Island, Fla., took a 3-0 lead in the opening set. But it eventually went to a tiebreaker with Burgin recovering from a 1-4 deficit to win it, 9-7. Garrison came back to win the second set, in which there were seven service breaks in nine games. Burgin, however, won the match in the 10th game of the third set when she broke Garrison on three straight errors by Garrison.
