A plan to increase Pepperdine University’s sewage capacity was approved Tuesday by the county Board of Supervisors.

The plan will allow Pepperdine to send a portion of its waste water to Las Virgenes Municipal Water District for treatment while the university continues to treat most of its waste water at its campus sewage treatment plant in Malibu.

County officials said the campus sewage plant is now working at capacity. The board’s action will allow the university to obtain approval of a building permit for a new administrative center proposed on the campus. The building permit had been delayed because of the university’s sewage problems, county officials said.
