Eastern’s machinists approved a revised contract.

The Miami-based carrier said it was out of danger of falling into technical default on its $2.5-billion debt now that members of the machinists union have approved the three-year labor contract. Eastern Airlines had been given until May 15 to reach contract agreements with unions representing machinists, pilots and flight attendants or be in default on its in loans and leasing agreements. Earlier, Eastern’s largest labor union, the 3,800-member Air Line Pilots Assn., approved a new contract.
