Two Beverly Hills High School juniors have won savings bonds for their essays on “How Becoming a Homeowner Can Give Me a Voice in America’s Future” in a contest sponsored by the Beverly Hills Board of Realtors as part of Private Property Week observed from April 29 to May 4.

Fred Sands, president of the realty board, announced that Robert E. Allen and Anthony Rich will receive $300 and $200 savings bonds, repectively, for their entries and Allen’s article will be submitted to the National Assn. of Realtors’ national essay competition.

The two winners will be honored at the board’s June 11 membership meeting at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.

In his article, Allen wrote:

“Once a person purchases a home, that person is no longer an outsider; that person is now a vibrant part of a coexisting group known as a community. If I were to become a homeowner, I know my voice would help steer the course of America in the future. I know that through my community involvement, my economic contribution to the community and my effect on the ideals of young Americans, I, as a homeowner, would help keep America illustrious and proud.”

Rich’s essay contained this reference:

“Perhaps the homeowner’s most important goal in owning a home would be that he could produce a stable environment for this family and descendants. The future of America lies with the youth and the ownership of land helps to develop America’s most important future, her children. Land ownership sets up a physical and tangible (bond) between the homeowner, his home and his country. The property itself forces the homeowner to care about his country, his government and the effects they will have on himself and his family.”
