Express Executive Is Hospitalized
Richard S. Stevens, chairman of the board for the Los Angeles Express, was hospitalized after suffering chest pains Tuesday morning at the football team’s Manhattan Beach office.
Stevens, 54, who oversees the United States Football League team’s non-football operations, was taken by ambulance to South Bay Hospital in Redondo Beach, where he was listed in stable condition.
Later Tuesday he was transferred to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance, where spokeswoman Mary Ely said he was undergoing tests but no condition report was available.
Stevens was appointed to head the Express in February, after the league took control of the financially troubled club.
