Bomb Hits Home of Holocaust Doubter
A bomb exploded early Wednesday outside the Northridge home of a retired high school teacher who has argued that the Nazis did not kill millions of Jews during World War II.
No one was hurt, but the blast destroyed double doors to the home of George Ashley, 57, a member of the board of directors of the Institute for Historical Review, a Torrance-based group that claims the Holocaust never happened.
The letters “JDL” were spray-painted in dark blue on the walkway leading to Ashley’s front door, and Ashley accused the Jewish Defense League of planting the bomb.
“We certainly didn’t bomb Ashley’s home,” JDL leader Irv Rubin said when reached for comment. “But it’s too bad that Mr. Ashley wasn’t blown up. We consider him a hard-core Nazi.”
Detective Michael Strong of the Los Angeles Police Department’s criminal conspiracy section said that police had found evidence of an “improvised explosive device” at Ashley’s home. He added, “We don’t know who did it at this point. We’re working on it.”
Ashley is a a former history teacher at North Hollywood High School.
