SDSU Women Win, but USIU Loses in NCAA Tennis Tournament

Getting a sweep from its three doubles teams, San Diego State defeated Northwestern, 6-3, Thursday to advance to a second-round date with USC in the NCAA Women’s Tennis Championships in Stillwater, Okla.

United States International University was not so fortunate, coming out of the singles matches tied but losing two out of three doubles matches en route to a 5-4 loss to Florida.

The Aztecs (26-8) beat Northwestern (24-7) with doubles wins from Linda Howell-Cynthia MacGregor, Jackie Geller-Jessica Buss and Anne Moeller-Cathy Berry. Howell, MacGregor and Berry won the top three singles matches, but Northwestern won the next three to even the match going to doubles.

The match with USC (30-2) will start at noon (PDT) today.
