The World : Mexico Road Crime Drops
The number of crimes against American tourists on Mexican highways has fallen sharply since the government increased security late last year in response to U.S. complaints, U.S. Embassy officials said. They said there has not been a serious highway crime against an American tourist at least since February--in contrast to a seven-month period last year, when six U.S. citizens were murdered. The embassy and the State Department are opposing an effort in Congress to require the U.S. government to issue a formal travel advisory to notify Americans about the risks of visiting Mexico.
