The U.S. marshal’s office failed to get a minimum $100,000 bid for a 208-acre Mendocino County ranch seized because its owners were caught growing marijuana. Rique and Natasha Kuru, who deeded their property to the federal government in exchange for the dropping of charges, were the first in the nation to lose their land under a tough new federal anti-cultivation law. Title will now revert to Orange County attorney Martin Cohen, who holds a $95,000 mortgage on the property.
