SDSU Women Advance in NCAA Tennis Play

San Diego State senior Linda Howell was a triple winner Tuesday as the NCAA women’s individual tennis tournament continued at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center.
Howell won twice in singles and also teamed with junior Cynthia MacGregor to record a victory in doubles.
Howell advanced to today’s round of 16 in singles by beating Jan Martin of Florida, 6-2, 6-4, and Joni Urban of UCLA, 7-5, 6-2. In doubles, the fifth-seeded team of Howell and MacGregor beat USC’s Claudia Hernandez and Dina Levy, 6-4, 6-4.
MacGregor was not as successful in singles play, losing, 6-3, 6-1, to Pam Jung of Pepperdine.
Another local duo, Sylvie Tetrault and Sanet Kock of U.S. International, lost, 6-2, 6-1, to Beverly Bose and Becky Callan of Texas.
