State Closes Nursing Home in San Jose
For the first time since 1982, state officials Friday ordered immediate closure of a health facility, a San Jose nursing home which was accused earlier this month of failing to provide proper treatment for an 83-year-old woman who died of dehydration.
The rarely used action was necessary because the 78 patients in the facility, Northlake Convalescent Hospital, were considered to be in imminent danger if they were not moved away, said Gil Wilmer of the Department of Health Services’ licensing unit.
The home is owned and operated by Youman’s Convalescent Hospital Inc. of Palo Alto, state officials said. The owners could not be reached for comment Friday.
