HAIL ‘HAMLET’
I couldn’t help seeing the put-down of Charles Marowitz’s “Hamlet” signed by J. Conley, “a wary first subscriber with the Los Angeles Actors Theatre” (Calendar Letters, May 19).
I had been debating whether to renew my subscription to the Mark Taper Forum or sign up with the LAAT, and after seeing the Marowitz “Hamlet”--which has the most theatrical and thought-provoking production of this play I had ever seen--I immediately opted for the LAAT.
I too read Marowitz’s strong words about the Taper and found his production to be the most stringent criticism he could possibly have made of the Taper’s tame and unadventurous policies.
