NCAA Baseball : Pepperdine Knocks Out Nebraska With 7-6 Win
Scott Marrett pitched 7 innings of relief Sunday to help Pepperdine defeat Nebraska, 7-6, in the NCAA West I Regional baseball tournament.
Pepperdine earned the right to play Stanford in a game later Sunday, and the Cornhuskers were knocked out of the double-elimination tourney.
Pepperdine tied the score, 4-4, in the seventh when Brad Bierley singled home Nezi Balelo. The Waves took a 5-4 lead when Steve Kilpatrick led off with a double, stole third base and scored on a line-single by Chad Kreuter.
The Waves extended the lead to 7-4 in the ninth. The Cornhuskers pulled within a run, 7-6, on a two-out, two-run home run by Paul Meyers.
Pepperdine’s Marrett allowed six hits and four runs to raise his record to 15-0 while Roger Webb went the distance for Nebraska, but saw his record fall to 8-4.
