Boy, 3, Dies After Falling Into Swimming Pool

A 3-year-old boy who fell into a backyard swimming pool Sunday died at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, authorities said.

The child, Nicholas Parish, died Tuesday afternoon, said Rick Rodriguez, a county deputy coroner. He said the cause of death was drowning.

Rodriguez said the boy had last been seen sleeping in a bedroom of his aunt’s Santa Ana home, where he and his mother had been staying.

The mother had left her son with his two grown cousins Sunday afternoon while she went grocery shopping. One cousin checked the boy’s room about 5 p.m., saw that he was missing and then spotted him through a window floating face down in the pool, Rodriguez said.
