Chatsworth Pesticide Firm Agrees to Fine
The federal Environmental Protection Agency announced Wednesday that Sierra Industries, a Chatsworth pesticide distributing firm, has agreed to pay a $7,500 fine to settle civil charges that the company had misleading labels on its products.
The EPA alleged in March that the firm placed labels on some of its pesticides claiming the product could be used for purposes not approved by the EPA, agency spokesman Al Zemsky said.
The settlement, reached May 10, requires the company to pay $7,500 to the government and to stop the illegal labeling, Zemsky said. Sierra neither admitted nor denied the allegations in agreeing to the settlement, he said.
The EPA’s complaint alleged that the labeling violated the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act.
Company officials were unavailable for comment.
