Redondo Beach

The City Council on Monday night directed City Manager Timothy Casey to write a letter to the Manhattan Beach elementary school district in support of an effort by the Aladdin child-care centers to lease the Center Middle School this fall.

The Aladdin Day-Care Center and the Aladdin Infant-Care Center, both of which must move from a former Redondo Beach elementary school next month to make way for a new tenant, will submit a bid to the Manhattan district for a 10-month lease at the Center school, owner Clara Whiteman said last week.

The district is scheduled to consider bids and award the lease at a school board meeting June 12.

The City Council passed a resolution last month in an unsuccessful effort to persuade the Redondo Beach elementary school district to allow the centers to remain at the former Fulton Elementary School, which has been leased to a private Christian school beginning next month.
