COPYBITING

I was appalled to see The Times print an article espousing and encouraging the piracy of videocassettes (“A Job for Captain Video,” by Gregg Barrios, June 2). I am sure The Times and Barrios would take considerable umbrage if anyone encouraged the copying of your copyrighted material.
The practice of copying any copyrighted material represents a serious threat to the economic base of not only the entertainment industry but all aspects of creative endeavor. By printing articles that flagrantly encourage copying videocassettes, it appears The Times’ Calendar editorial staff is biting the hand that feeds it.
